Growing up in South London Tristram went through bands like
Mick Jagger goes through women half his age. Classic names like
Spit DV8, Squid, The Squids
and The New Squids came and went as the man moved
from harp to guitar to bass and back again. On arriving in Leicester
he formed the short lived punk rock outfit The Lambchops
with Mick Mox before deciding on a life of folky simplicity.
Various acoustic duos and trios followed, wowing folk clubs
the length and breadth of the Narborough Road.
Eventually deciding to quit folk for the much more lucrative
life of Chicago blues Tristram linked up with a man who would
quite literally be around for the next few years - James.
Together they built the magnificent 4 'til late
and went on to tower over the world of pub RnB for the next
two years. Like all good things 4 'til late had
to come to an end when walking bass maestro Tony had to go for
a hip replacement.
Tristram and James followed 4 'til late with
blues/rock outfit The Revelators. The Revelators
featured the fretless wonder Rich on
bass and a stalwart of the Leicester music scene, Jel, on piano
and percussion. Joined by Phil, the drummer from 4 'til
late, this five piece gigged across the midlands for
around 18 months. In spare moments around the edge of The
Revelators Tristram could sometimes be heard blowing
a bit of sax with the ska punk outfit the Comic Book Heroes.
After The Revelators Tristram took some time
out from the music biz although he was occasionally tempted
back to play with pub rock scratch band The Partizans
featuring James, Rich and female drummer Sharon. But, eventually
the lure of lugging amps around pubs in the midlands became
too strong and The Roadhogs was formed with James,
Rich, Sharon and Canadian bass player Dan. One year later and
The Roadhogs are still going strong with a brand new line up.
Outside of The Roadhogs Tristram is working on
an album of original material. Roadhogs fans will be pleased
to know that a number of Roadhogs, ex-Roadhogs, Revelators and
other faces from the Leicester music scene will be appearing
as part of this new project which is provisionally entitled
Pig Iron Joe.
